Tin Opener.
Tin Opener.
Is it just us (the missus and me that is) that keep getting through tin openers for a pastime
It doesn't matter what we've tried they all seem to be rubbish, they just don't last. We even tried one of those hands free egg shaped ones from JML, that did one tin perfect, then started playing up on the second tin
What type/make would you guy's recommend I'm open to any suggestions. It doesn't have to be operated by batteries. I'd don't mind what it is so long as it will open tins for a reasonable length of time.
Chris.

i open them with my teeth.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: Tin Opener.
I use a #1 Wife.
Never let me down yet.
Wouldn't say that to her faces, though.

Re: Tin Opener.
Ah, well, each to his own, and I'll keep mine, thanks!
I knew I was on to a winner when I spent my savings for her engagement ring on a Honda SL125 1973.
To be fair she made me register it in her name, and the priest had kittens when it came to blessing the rings, but even so.......
Mostly forgives when she sees the monthly E-bay bill, and fails to notice that the parts I buy intending to re-sell at a profit seem to stay firmly in the garage stock, and helps to lift frames off engines while still in her dressing gown on a Sunday sometimes.
Don't know if I fancy an upgrade, now she's getting the hang of it, TBH.
Might consider a test ride, though

It's never let us down yet. What I have noticed though is a lot of food companies are using the ring-pull type of can, the ones that ping off at the last minute, splattering your pristine t-shirt with soup.
Chris.
PS.
Benny, we had a Doberman who used to do that, funnily enough he was called Benson.benny hedges wrote:i open them with my teeth.

Sirc,
We have a culinaire Safety Can2 which seems to work ok, failing that a metal ex army one that folds/ the pointy bit, that is.
Cheers

Re: Tin Opener.
Try a mobility aids company. They have products designed for use by the elderly, people with very little strength, no grip, or poor eyesight.
Now all this sounds like I'm having a go, but I'm not on this occasion, these are client groups I work with.
And they can't always manage ordinary openers, so these sites have products which are not only easy to use but reliable, too.
Short of that, try catering machinery suppliers, and get an industrial one which is designed for near-constant use in restaurants and commercial kitchens.
Just be aware that these are mostly plus VAT.

However it's not a user problem as most work fine for a while (some shorter than others), it's the rubbish quality that's the problem, meaning they don't last.
A very good suggestion about getting an industrial one, something that I hadn't thought about.
Thanks Chris for your info tooLotusSevenMan wrote:As I 'cook' completely from cans etc I use a very similar one to this and have done so for 5 years. Works for me!!!

I can't believe you've come up with one of those
We used to have one many years ago (different make though) just like that, it was brilliant and lasted for many years, but were unable to find the same again.
