i've bought another rear, longer, inlet trumpet to try on the next batch of dyno runs.
also done some measuring and i recon the USD R1 front end i've got in the garage should transfer across quite well with just a stem swap....
so i've bought a spare bottom yoke off e-bay so i can keep the bike on the road while i prepare the bits.
i've also got the matching R1 6" rear wheel, so might try that with a 200 tyre, i can make my own offset front sprocket if needed.

first blast out today with the race cans on.
ART straight thru's and link pipes.
feels like it's gained about 10 bhp.... tho i know it hasn't.
the low rpm 'chugging' it had due to excessive leanness seems much improved, but now there seems to be a slight 'hunting' at about 3k that wasn't there before.
much more lively up the top, tho i haven't gone much above 8k, it's just not natural to rev a big twin that high!!!!! 3-4-5-6-7k is much fun!!
seems to have more intake noise now?? not sure what's caused that, as none of that's been touched?
hope to get it on the dyno again next week for a look-see.

With that change in exhaust was it rejetted and dynoed?

nope. all i've done at the mo is take the std cans off and add the new link pipes and ART cans.

are you keeping the standard swingarm?
if so i doubt you will get the r1 rear wheel to fit, just not wide enough, i tried to fit a cbr954 and it was going to be so much work. it just wasn't worth it. if you're in a position to do machine work then it could work.
you've got some good plans and i can't wait to see what you come up with buddy

i'd like to keep the std arm, i've measured the wheel, (overall width along the spindle, centrepoint, sprocket offset from centreline), but i haven't measured the vtr arm up yet.....bigspanishmarty wrote:are you keeping the standard swingarm?

the spare vtr bottom yoke and stem came from e-bay today, so i can swap the stem into my R1 yokes and work out where the re-positioned lock-stops will go...
the new long, rear inlet trumpet (to go on the front) came today, too. not really accurate to call it a trumpet, more a tube.... there's gonna be a hell of a lot of turbulance around the lip....
so i've bought an sp-1 airbox to get the trumpets, i'm going to cut the tops off the sp-1 trumpets and bond and blend them onto the vtr ones, that should help matters.

i've been thinking about the issues people have with making even a small airbox mod/changing filters etc.....
i know a small bit about this.... an airbox i designed for a zx9r streetfighter gave more power on the same dyno than a standard one....
the issue is height.
or lack of it.
i recon that's why the blade is in the roof of the std airbox, to 'trick' the air into thinking the airbox is deeper than it really is by modifying the flow characturistics.
the bellmouths need circa 3xdia clear above them to work efficiently, there's nowhere near that in a vtr airbox...
{edit} putting the sp-1 and vtr airboxes next to each other shows the sp-1 one is much deeper, and it doesn't have a blade in the roof, i could be right....
to that end, i've bought a vfr tank off e-bay, and i'll be modding the underside to give a bit more room.
i've also run a tape measure across the vtr arm and the R1 wheel, doesn't look like it's too much work to fit it in.
bike's gonna need a new chain soon, i'll try a temp fit while it's in bits.

sprocket offset from wheel centreline..................................................................................110mm........120mm
sooooo.....
looks like it'll fit in the arm, i need to machine 5mm off the disc mount face and space the sprocket out 10mm on the R1 wheel.
discs are the same size, so no probs with caliper mounts etc.
might be a bit of jiggling with spacers to centralise the wheel, but no biggie, and the R1 wheel has already been sleeved down to the same size spindle as it was going to be used on something else.

this pictures been knocking around for some time now, its very very nice tho. one fella did make one of these front fairings and a few months ago the bike was for sale on ebay but the current owner had given the bike such a naff paint job he had trouble selling it, i would have given him £200 just for the front fairing and headlights....lolrob... wrote:sorry marty, edited post and deleted pic by mistake.

i cut the top off the SP-1 trumpets, lines up really well with the firestorm 'tube', hardly any blending will be needed.
so i will be running 2 rear, long, trumpets with SP-1 rims on both.
before and after dyno runs will be posted here, hopefully this will turn into a good thread of what works and what doesn't.......
the only slight fly in the ointment is that the front SP-1 trumpet has a bit missing from the rim, to clear the front of the airbox, you can see it on the floor in the pic. easy to shape something to fit tho.

i'll replace the fixing screws with allen bolts, then i can fill in the gaps in the rims too.
