Thanks for that mate. I am going to order the bits tomorrow from vehicle wiring products ltd -

http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... mepage.php

I have used them before and there service is brilliant.
As you say I would rather make the tails longer than shorter. I was going to bind with electrical tape and finish them with shrink wrap.

Sounds like that will be a professional job, and no risk of reliability or corrosion in the solder joints.

Assume you have all the extractor tools and crimps ( not the ones for your hair :D ) to do the job, perhaps you can run a batch off for all the people doing the conversion over the winter and sell them via BSM's sale section

I already have the crimping tool and a selection of fittings (but none of the right size!). The original plugs have little retaining clips which latch onto the connectors. A small implement, I use a sharpened spoke from a bicycle, can be used to lift the catch and pull out the connector. I will get a metre of Green, Black/yellow & Yellow black thinwall cable and eight of the correct size connectors from that company tomorrow.
If anyone wanted a colour coded purpose built set of wires it wouldn't/shouldn't be a problem. The only down side is I would need both connecting plugs with the little rubber stoppers to ensure a water tight finish.
The other option is I will try to make a couple of workshop days next year with my tools and knock them up there.

I was looking at the Superhawk forum and saw the following pictures, which seem to solve the wobbling coils without butchering the VTR seals -

Image

The Rubber seal at the top of the coil is moved down so that it becomes an interference fit in the cam cover as in the following picture -

If you wanted to leave the seal in place around the top I'm sure another rubber seal could be added at the lower level.

Kev,
I used that photo set from the USA site as my starting point, but the coils they used are longer than the ones I have! [no comment kev!].

in that picture he manages to have the connector pointing towards the back of the bike, the cbr600 coils I used sit about 15mm lower, and so the connector can only point sideways. if you have the longer coils [CBR1000 i think] then you dont need to cut as much off the standard seal, and you can run shorter wires as the connector can point in any direction............but they will wobble more.

I would say that it is best to use the standard VTR plug seal as it is designed to seal the VTR cyl head castings. the CBR IL4 head just has circular holes and the little seal round the top of the stick coil does the job on that bike......but this is not enough for the front cyl on the VTR!!!

once you have used the VTR seal, the stick coil is well supported and there is no wobble problem

I'd only add that it would be a good idea to have enough slack in the loom wires so that the wires can hang down below the entry point. This will allow condensation or r ain to drip off the wires rather than run down them into the cable entry holes.
Doesn't seem to be affected by rain fitted as is, but it seems a relatively simple safeguard, just in case.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Put my leads together today, no soldered joints. Made to the lengths suggested by AMcQ46 using new connectors and rubber seals on the VTR ends and new connectors but the original rubber seals from the CBR600RR end. I reused the old seals on that end as they are slightly smaller than the VTR ones. The only place I could get the connectors from, which would fit into the original Honda block connectors, was Kojaycat.com up in the land of the fried mars bar. If anyone is interested the number of the connectors is 2W-090-MT. This is for the whole connector block with male & female connectors. I am going to contact them again on the 18th December to see if they sell the female connectors in isolation as this is the only bit you really need ( they are migrating their operation to a new site at present ).
All this really means is the leads are now in the correct VTR colour schemes as per the wiring diagrams and have the correct connector blocks with crimped ends. Everything is finished off in shrink wrap. I was going to stick some pics up but thought they would really put people to sleep.

Marty when you are ready I will knock up some leads for you if you want. Just need to order up the right connectors.
Let me know, you can come to my room in the chateau. There will be no pressure ( this should be read in a slightly creepy German accent as in Black Adder goes forth!).
Obviously Marty I don't want to tread on any toes and if you think MacV2 might react badly to you seeing other people I quite understand...
