Rear Spring Rates

Post by Jester666 »

I'm looking to change the spring on the rear shock and need some advice pleeeze!!

I'm approx 14 1/2 stone in my gear so what spring rate should I be looking at? lbs/ins or N/mm is fine.

And what length is the spring?

I know some people have gone for Jacougar (spelling?), I'm looking at Faulkners.

The internal diameter of their springs is 2.25"/58.5mm, is this ok?

Thanks Guys as I understand bugger all about the dark art of suspension, its all wizards and pixies as far as I know!!

Check out the Racetech Web site (http://racetech.com/VehicleSearch) as they have an on-line spring rate calculator. You enter the bike model, intended use (road or track) and your weight and they give you a recommende rate. Easy as pie......

I have a spring from Faulkners,Good value but will not fit a standard shock, some say a spring around 800-850lb is OK for them but I have found that the 920lb (stock) after a bit of use works best (12 stone).

Jester, I'm not sure off the top of my head, but remember the standard Firestorm shock does not have a parallel spring. One end has a smaller diameter measurement than the other.

The Maxton spring I have fitted get around thing by using a reducing collar.

Was thinking the same thing, looking at the calculator I'm nearly too effing big to be riding the bike even with modding the suspension lol FML!
