Full Bafflectomy Assistance (now sorted!!- read on)

Post by Griff1977 »

Hi 'y'all. Ive had a partial bafflectomy on my standard cans for a while now. I decided that this is the time to go full!!

No I bought a 57mm round saw which is perfect for getting inside the main exhaust opening, and it did the job in about 10 secs. Then (as expected) the baffle, although detached from the plate that I had just drilled, it was still pretty solid, so, as I had read on here, I took a hammer to it and hit the inner pipe (end of baffle) and this has now come loose, allowing me to spin baffle around in place.

Only problem now is that the baffle won't come out - it will go backward and forward about 4-6cm and spin around but not out. Ive tried pulling it with pliers, monkey wrench and I'm now fresh out of ideas??? HELP!!

Griff :confused :confused :confused :confused :confused :confused

Shove it in a bit, smooth out the hole cut by the hole saw and see if it will clear then.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Tony, it seems to be stuck on the innards of the can - maybe the connection that I had broke when hammering it. However, I will smooth out the new 'rim' that I've created with hole saw, and at least when I get it past the first instruction (inside) it will come past the rim easier. Ta. Kidda; excellent advice - maybe this is a good excuse to get some blue flames or scorpions??!! Griff :plainsmile

I was just thinking, why not put some aftermarket cans on. With Scorpians you would get a bit of extra power as well as a good sound. Also with the Scorpians there is no need to re-jet

Have Fun.

CC, ta... I know - but finances (and the misses) are the limiting factor!!

Anyway, SUCCESS!!!!!!

Pics:

Image
These are the baffles post surgery!! The problem I had was the weld join (1/3 the way up, from dirty to clean in pic) preventing baffles coming out after I had hammered them in to brake weld!!

Image
Here you can see the welded plate that I had to chip away at to allow baffle to come forward - I used a long normal screwdriver and a hammer!! Just chipped away and made hole bigger - oh and a torch came in handy!!

Another pic of the weld join inside

Last one!!

All done now. Shame but because its after "children to bed time" I'm not allowed to listen to the results of my labours!!! Tomorrow will be a nice day!!

If anybody with standard cans is thinking about doing the bafflectomy then give me a pm, or use this thread, its not as easy as I expected but ok in the end!!

Griff :cool2  :D :)

2 Questions.

1 Do you need to rejet with just the partial op done. (holes in the zorst)

2. Do you need to rejet with the full jobby and will it pass the MOT?
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Yep and on that, with the partial that I ran for 5 months, it seemed happier I think - seemed a little smoother. My MOT tester commends loud exhausts as a safety feature!!! - he says it warns pedestrians of your presence!! It isn't too loud with holes - just better, deeper sound. Go for it!!!

Thanks guys. Might have to get the drill out ASAP then. One of my neighbours is a biker and says the bike sounds beautiful and thats just as standard. Give him a dose of the louder standards see what he thinks then.

Go for it PinkyF! I started with I think 3 small holes and just carried on- had 6 as large as they could be- great.

Rode bike today- not much difference with rear baffle out- maybe a bit more of a deeper sound!! Griff.
