Spraying radiators

Just wondering will i be okay just getting high heat spray paint to do my radiators with ? or will this still peel and look bad ?

It doesn't interfere with the cooling properties

ive got a can of barbecue black high heat stuff wnt i be okay using that like ?? i was gonna ask about the fillament bits wasnt sure if cud spray them bits or not but have it all off can ready just dunno if its a go or not ha ha

In an ideal world use radiator spray, but I don't think any other heat resistant spray would do much harm as long as it's not sprayed so thick as to clog up all the fins. It may get a bit hotter, it just means the fan will kick in more often.

i used normal spray paint on mine no problem with over heating

Do remember that the radiator is aluminium

Most paint is not designed to go straight onto it

i have a can of plasti-kote woodstove its a can my neighbour gave me as he only used a little of the can ?

However, after a while, just like any alloy, the paint starts to peel off

Using the correct paint, or correct undercoat should stop this happening

Open the box, or gamble the decision is yours

That plasticoat is good stuff but not for radiators

Do a bit of research on tinterweb with regards to painting alluminium

+1. Any aluminium surface will have a layer of oxidisation on it, you'll be asking the paint to stick to that, not aluminium.
Mind you, it's no big job to pull the rads off and respray every couple of years or so.

ive covered the filiment area and sprayed rnd it .. as sum1 sed i cud cause problems to the cooling effect if i spray them ? but it looks odd leaving the main area horrid silver lol

i assume the main exaust pipe coming off the engine going underneath cudnt be sprayed with this type of paint ? that wud peel off on like 1 ride out wudnt it ? lol

Again, if you go to frost.co.uk, they sell exhaust manifold paint as well as radiator paint, even wilco motosave sell vht spray

Tony mentioned it's not a big job to do them every couple of years...................but why not do it correct the first time
