Re: manual cct
You should have 7mm play in the cam chain between The cam sprockets
Finger tight is sometime to tight .
So it's best to remove the cam covers and the top guide to measure the slack
Only do one cylinder at a time making sure its in tdc before hand

Re: manual cct
if you know what you are doing (i dont !) you can do it with the engine running by ear. i,ve seen the mon meister do it.

Re: manual cct
One persons finger tight is different from another persons finger tight, too much room for error. Best to do as Lloydie suggested and remove the cam covers and get a ruler out.
You can also double check that you are definitely at TDC by the position of the cam lobes as well.

The best method I have heard of to get the correct tension is this (not mine, but can't remember who to credit)
Do the back one as per the rules. Set tdc, take off the cam cover and take off the chain guide so you can measure the chain slack. But the new trick is to not try and work out what finger tight is, it is to loctite the bolt, then wind in by hand till the chain is tight and then mark the screw with a marker pen and count the number of turns you need to unwind the bolt till you get 7mm slack. This then gives you the way to set the tension on the front cyl without taking the cam cover off.
Hope it makes sense
