Exhaust Question?

Post by VTRPiG »

Hi guys in the process of making up some exhaust hangers to smoothen out the rear end. Question is- Is it necessary for the link pipes to be bolted to the rearsets? Reason I ask is i can re position the silencers to a higher position, pointing up towards the rear of the tail section and tampering inwards like on the SP1/SP2's. When i twist the pipes the little piece that is welded onto the link pipes is no longer in line with the rearsets to bolt into place.

Cheers in advance

i removed the brackets from my link pipes to raise the cans .
i had no adverse problems from doing it and i had less vibrations through the pegs
here a pic of mine when i did it .

No, the can is still held where it clamps to the header pipe and the hanging bracket just supports it.

Agreed, not necessary; some aftermarket link pipes don't have the brackets anyway.

But it makes it important to have decent brackets for the cans.
If you place the bracket too near the engine end, the can is unsupported for most of its length and can vibrate. Worse, it can fracture at the collector joint or can end cap/link pipe joint.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
