I think your both saying the same type of bolt, security torx bolts have a bit in the middle.
Shear bolts are different. They are like the ones you get on ignition barrels. When you first install them they have a bolt head which snaps off when tightened up leaving a flush surface. But both security tamper proof type bolts.

I've heard people refer to shear bolts before that are actually security bolts, which is why I think Hawk is referring to the same.

Shear bolts are often used on ignition barrels but on a tps it makes no sense to put them on something that's adjustable, plus if you needed to get it off you'd have to remove the engine to drill them out 8O

No a shear bolt just like the pic Carl posted. It breaks apart when tightened so you can't mess with it ever,or so they want to think.....lol .... it's a US thing.

So we take a chisel or even a screwdriver and turn them out or just slot them and turn them and no need to remove the engine, just pull the carbs...........

Sorry mate, didn't mean to doubt you, just people sometimes get confused between the two.

So anti tamper measures then, a bit like a lot of USA bikes that have the pilot screws capped off so they can't be adjusted (but careful with a small drill bit and you can pry the plugs out then adjust away

No worries and I know sometimes people do get the terms mixed up

Yes it is the exact same thing as the pressed in caps on the pilots screws and why the pilots here (on Honda) have a "D" shape that requires a special driver to adjust.
