Ok failed at the first hurdle got the bike mounted on the abba stand no worries and used some wood to raise it a little. Got the wheel off now worries but the caliper won't come off the disc! It has worn away and there is an edge on the outer rim of the caliper that the pads get caught on when you try to lift it off.
Was hoping to not have to bleed the caliper but am I gonna have to to get it off or is there another way?

If the pads are getting caught, just push them in. Get a screw driver and lever it against something solid to force the pads away from the disc. It should push back fairly easily, certainly enough to give you a few mil clearance to get the caliper off the disc.
+1
Lever the pads back which pushes the piston in. You should be able to lift the calliper and pads off then. Note the little metal spring clip that that sits towards the front of the bike against the pads and the calliper mounting bracket. Best to remove the brake calliper before taking the axle bolt out the rear wheel though, otherwise you will struggle with positioning the wheel and getting the calliper off at the same time.
