Brake Pulsing

Post by scouse645 »

Having been bombing around the isle of man for the past week and using the brakes a lot i'm getting a lot of pulsing from the front brakes  , i had the problem before i went but it's worse now, it wasn't doing it after i changed the pads a few months ago, i am wondering if i have done something to the right disk, i must admit i pulled the bike back with the disc lock on a while ago, could that have caused this problem :?

Might have just answered your own question. Sounds like the disc could be warped.
Try jacking the front of the bike up and spin the wheel and see if you can eye the discs up. Better still, take them off and check them against a flat surface.

Before you go getting too disheartened  , check that the bobbins in the disc centre are free and not siezed up. This could stop the disc being free floating causing the same symptoms......

i did check the bobbins today, they needed freeing up a bit, the pulsing is still there i think, but not as bad, maybe the discs are warped.

Sorry mate. I have had this, well still got it actually.

I bought a set of discs, guaranteed to be fine, they were warped, 40% brake fluctuation on the test machine, then jamie very kindly gave me a set, they were a lot better but just failed by a few percent.

Don't bother buying second hand discs, it is a waste of money. New honda are cheaper than EBC and better, ebc have had a few issues lately according to my local dealer. Waveys can be had for half the price of honda, but again, reports are of quality varying.

My first port of call will be to find an engineering place to refinish them, it can be done as long as they have plenty of meat on them.

Might try these guys if no body local.

If I get on with them, or find somewhere local to me I will let you know how I get on. My storm is off the road at the mo, as I can't afford £300 for a pair of honda discs and not sure I want to risk £150 on waveys off fleecebay.
Budget storm gradually on the road to spangliness.

Good advice there Matty, especially the Skimming as it's often overlooked as an option.

My front disks wore out at 50,000 miles, as the originals had lasted that long I replaced them with OEM Honda ones from David Silvers.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
