Rear wheel bearings

Hi...got an advisory on my MOT that I need to replace my rear wheel bearings. Do I need a special tool to remove the old bearings...or will they simply tap out using a bar from the opposite side? I looked on the PDF repair manual but it recommends a special Honda tool...is this really needed?

Nope just use a bar and tap them out from the other side .

while your in there do the sprocket carrier bearing as well. it takes a pounding from the big old engine

No, bearings have standard sizes, just order some quality bearings and seals in correct sizes. I would choose NTN.

If you have time, tap out the old bearings. Then look at the codes on them and you can order replacements.
Time because you will have the bike off the road until you have bearings to hand.

if you just order the bearing form David Siler you'll have the right ones to hand and can simply swap in/out.
