Rear Dymag rim test fit

Post by mik_str »

woohoo!!!!!!

My buddy Jack Flash (Superhawkforum member and world renowned for his long fuel screws, lol) lent me a CBR900RR swingarm he hacked up for its brace in order to allow me to try a test fit of my CBR600RR-sourced Dymag carbon rear wheel. Drum roll please........... It's a perfect fit!!!!!!! Seems as though the only mod I will need is to fit a reduction sleeve in the captive spacers to reduce them to 20mm from their present 25mm ID (that or get new spacers machined that will have the smaller internal diameter). Major relief at this end, I was worried that I was going to have to mess with spacers to get the wheel to fit and be properly centered, and now it seems as though I won't have to resort to that headache.... Always nice when a project turns out to be less hassle than initially feared :)

I haven't yet tried the front wheel, but as the triple clamps I am currently using are from a 600RR, I would expect it to be a straight swap (same 20mm axle size btw). The only potential hiccup would be if the ZX-10R fork lower is of a different width than the 600's, in which case some minor fiddling with spacer thickness would be in order.... here's to hoping that is not the case.......

The Carbon Express lives!!!!! muahahahahahahahah

chain adjusters were in place, exact same as VTR units (changed in 2000 when the 929 was released as it used a larger axle diameter, all 99 and prior used the same axle adjusters as the VTR, and numerous other Honda models of that era).....

will do, sadly that won't come until the spring...... the old girl is having a prolonged Canadian winter nap.... Can't wait to see how the rims (and lightweight front rotors) and new carb set-up wake her up......

well, truth be told, I am running out of options, lol

Will be swapping the sidestand out for a a billet aluminum unit, installing the carbs with the Factory Pro HDJ needle jets and 1.7 jet kit (with larger main air jets, so some jetting fine-tuning in my future, .....). I will be getting the Ohlins shock rebuilt and maybe getting another lithium battery now that I have isolated the cause of my previous problems (ie. faulty stator). I will also be installing an LED voltage monitor to inform me of future electrical gremlins. That's about it......

I have an aluminum (race) fairing stay but it would need to be modded so as to make room for the headlight. Not sure if I will get round to doing that or not. I also have an aluminum subframe from a CBR900RR that I would like to mod and adapt to fit (likely shed 3-4 pounds in the process), but not having a welder puts a damper on said projects......

Oh well, bike should run reasonably well nonetheless :)

I've just replaced the old volt meter with a LED type volt meter on my bike. TIP: Don't take the live (+) feed from the front brake light switch like I did :problem:
