I've used them on the back. They wear real quick iirc.

I'm always happy to put cheap pads on the back but not on the front

I've used quite a few different brake pads on my Storm and on my SP2, In my opinion the best pads to use are the original Honda (Nissin) ones, they are great for normal road use and more, to be honest I'm sure they're around the same price, maybe a couple of quid dearer, so it would be a no brainer to me anyway
I think if you spend an hour to clean/rub your discs with scotchbrite, clean your callipers and pistons, change the fluid and put the original Honda ones in you'll be quite surprised.
Don't ever skimp on Brakes or Tyres, you will probably need to use them to their full potential one day.

Thinking of changing the fluid as well. Is this straight forward, is there anything special I will need?

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Attach to the bleed niple and draw the fluid and air out the lines. Or you could get a colostomy bag http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... ing+brakes

It's simple enough to change your fluid. Keep pumping the brakes until the old dirty fluid comes out and replace with good stuff.

Draw the old fluid out...

More importantly push the new fluid in from the bottom...the air is pushed up, less bleeding required...much less in fact.
