Suspension linkage seized
Suspension linkage seized
Hi
Today I decided to strip and regrease the likages.
I managed to get most of the bolts out except the one that goes through the swingarm. The bell crank wont turn on the bearings.
I got the nut off, however I cannot withdraw the bolt. It's seized solid.
I've tried to hammer the bolt out (with the nut on, of course)
Is there a technique to removing this bolt, or do I have to attack it with the angle grinder.
Roger

Re: Suspension linkage seized
Hello roger
Brian here from leyland - just taken all this lot off and had to use some serious heat with my butane gun - happy to help if you need help
That one on mine came off relatively easily but the needle bearings had completely rusted away - all was left of needles was bits of rust
As I say happy to help as we aren't far away

Re: Suspension linkage seized
Thanks for the replies guys.
I'll try the heat and freeze method first.
New bearings anyway.
If I need help I'll give a big shout.
Thanks.

Re: Suspension linkage seized
Heat and a big hammer again .
When I had trouble with one ,I found it easier with the swing arm removed.

Re: Suspension linkage seized
i had one that was the same
did hammer, heat, soaked for a week in wd40 bath, more hammer more heat, then tried welding a big bar to it to try to get it moving........
in the end i had to accept defeat and the disk cutter came out
was not happy it was sold to me via ebay as good working order

Re: Suspension linkage seized
Bolt is now free.
used a small butane torch on the swingarm where the allen key sided bolt goes through, then drifted the bolt from the other side.
Now I'm waiting for parts.
