Are you sure you have mineral oil ?, it's not that easy to come by now and often quite expensive. Even the base oils are synthetic based these days. Anyway to answer the question there will be no problems changing from one to the other.

Use 10/40 grade oil.

Mineral oil is laxative that is used to relieve constipation and bowel irregularity, according to the Drugs.com. Mineral oil works by slowing the absorption of water from your intestine, which then softens the stool and relieves constipation.

Well this is the oil I have been using in my bikes (apart from the souped up GS550) and I was always led to believe it was a mineral oil.

It doesn't say anywhere in the specs or on the packaging that it is a synthetic so I am guessing it is a mineral oil. Any comments?!!!

Silkolene V-Twin 10W-40 Semi Synthetic (Ride 4T)

I will be doing another oil change shortly, using the same brand of oil I used on another make of Japanese V-Tim engine - and found it to be THE oil I will keep using on any other V-twin I may get in the future. I highly recommend trying it.

Before using it in the Storm, I called (once again) the ever helpful people at Honda UK Technical, and they said YES, they'd highly recommend it for the Firestorm, due to the Specs having the all important "JASO MA, and MA2".

Interestingly, Silkolene themselves recommend a different oil for the Firestorm. They suggest: : Silkolene Comp 4 10W-30 :eh:

Silkolene V-Twin 10W-40 Semi Synthetic (Ride 4T)

Specifications:

JASO MA & MA2 (And THESE 2 are what to look out for in motorcycle oil)
API SG,
SH & SJ
CCMC G5

"Molecular converted, Semi synthetic 4 stroke engine oil for all Metric V-Twin Cruisers".

"High performance engine lubricant to cope with thedemands of European and Japanese built V-Twin models. Provides outstanding protection against wear and corrosion, as well as maintaining high levels of engine cleanliness under even the most extreme operating conditions."

Designed for use in European and Japanese Metric V-Twins, and Harley Davidson (Heavier weights available). Giving cutting edge protection against corrosion, oxidation and wear.

Includes MC-Syn Technology and promotes a extreme level of engine cleanliness, keeping vital engine parts operating at maximum efficiency.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Its not a car oil, it's not cheap sh1t either (prices vary from £7 to £9 a litre - (and you need just under 4 litres for an oil & filter change). It's been developed SPECIFICALLY for V-Twin motorcycle engines. (VTR1000 & VTR SP1-2/Ducati/MotoGuzzi/Yamaha MT-01/Kawasaki Vulcan/Suzuki SV and TL1000/Harley etc)

I've been using Silkolene in all my bikes since about 1998. I can't fault it. I tried a lot of cheap end oil from Halfords and the like when younger. Even the local oil warehouse selling gallons of it for less than 20 quid! - But it's just that: cheap crap. Yes, it's still motor oil, but just because it said 10W40 on it, didn't mean it was suitable for any old bike engine. Oil MUST have be "JASO MA/2 spec" for modern, high tech bike engines.

"Opie Oils" have it for sale at a very competitive price, and you get 10% off when you quote "VTR1000" in the order (if you are a Forum member!)

How cool is that?
