Well, got it road taxed for another 6 months. Thieving buggers have put it up again! Ok, by only 55p, but still.

Then, as it had actually stopped raining for 5 mins (clouds are recharging themselves), I decided to fetch the bike round from the garage and try and remove the seized bolt that held the road-tax holder onto the swing-arm (it's the bolt that's on the front of the hugger beside the left footrest.
Not being able to get the bike round the back of the house to work on (flat paving slabs), I had to fart about with it up on the Abba Stand, on the road. (bl00dy narrow road with cars passing about a foot away from yer butt)
I new the bolt was seized before, and Mac McGrain advised months ago to soak it in Plus-gas. It's been soaked in ACF50 for donkeys and STILL never budged, Even the impact driver never made it move.

So - out with the cold chisel and the trust ball-pein hammer, and cut the head off the bolt. That left a chunk of thread to try and grip with the mole-grips, but nope, the thread just twisted clean off. Bugga. Oh well, at least I could now get the hugger off enough to drill out the remaining thread.
Centre punched the thread, worked me way up with the drill bits, and finally (after about an hour snapping a few drill bits) got through it. Only problem I saw now, was the last drill bit was slightly bigger than the old thread. So, it'll need re-tapped to the next size up.
For now though, I rootled through me tub of old British bolts and found a thread size good enough to fit, and it tightened up pretty well by making it's own thread in the alloy!
Started about 4pm, finished about 6.45pm - knackered and oot o' breath just doing that piddly little job, but jobs a good un as far as I'm concerned.
The worst part of the whole job wasn't the drilling out of the thread. It was trying to get the right hand side hugger nut and bolt back in again. The one furthest in. You can't get yer fingers in between the tyre, and you can't get yer fingers up from the bottom.
I'd be damned if I was going to take the back wheel off for a 20 second job.
Ended up super-gluing the nut to the washer, and then putting a spot of glue on the spanner to hold the nut. Was able to just pop the spanner up with attached nut, feed bolt through and a quick flick separated the nut from the spanner. All wiped clean again, and ridden back round to the lock up.
Hopefully it'll stay dry tomorrow, and I'll be fit enough to run to the bike convention. And if I get offered a decent amount for it tomorrow, I'll be walking home!
