What have you done to your "bike" today?

Well, got it road taxed for another 6 months. Thieving buggers have put it up again! Ok, by only 55p, but still. :(

Then, as it had actually stopped raining for 5 mins (clouds are recharging themselves), I decided to fetch the bike round from the garage and try and remove the seized bolt that held the road-tax holder onto the swing-arm (it's the bolt that's on the front of the hugger beside the left footrest.

Not being able to get the bike round the back of the house to work on (flat paving slabs), I had to fart about with it up on the Abba Stand, on the road. (bl00dy narrow road with cars passing about a foot away from yer butt)

I new the bolt was seized before, and Mac McGrain advised months ago to soak it in Plus-gas. It's been soaked in ACF50 for donkeys and STILL never budged, Even the impact driver never made it move.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So - out with the cold chisel and the trust ball-pein hammer, and cut the head off the bolt. That left a chunk of thread to try and grip with the mole-grips, but nope, the thread just twisted clean off. Bugga. Oh well, at least I could now get the hugger off enough to drill out the remaining thread.

Centre punched the thread, worked me way up with the drill bits, and finally (after about an hour snapping a few drill bits) got through it. Only problem I saw now, was the last drill bit was slightly bigger than the old thread. So, it'll need re-tapped to the next size up.

For now though, I rootled through me tub of old British bolts and found a thread size good enough to fit, and it tightened up pretty well by making it's own thread in the alloy!

Started about 4pm, finished about 6.45pm - knackered and oot o' breath just doing that piddly little job, but jobs a good un as far as I'm concerned.

The worst part of the whole job wasn't the drilling out of the thread. It was trying to get the right hand side hugger nut and bolt back in again. The one furthest in. You can't get yer fingers in between the tyre, and you can't get yer fingers up from the bottom.

I'd be damned if I was going to take the back wheel off for a 20 second job.

Ended up super-gluing the nut to the washer, and then putting a spot of glue on the spanner to hold the nut. Was able to just pop the spanner up with attached nut, feed bolt through and a quick flick separated the nut from the spanner. All wiped clean again, and ridden back round to the lock up.

Hopefully it'll stay dry tomorrow, and I'll be fit enough to run to the bike convention. And if I get offered a decent amount for it tomorrow, I'll be walking home!

If it ain't broken...f*ck about with it until it is.

Today I have reinstalled the fuel pump, fitted an isolator for the live side of the battery( fed up with it going too flat to start the bike after being left standing for more than four days). Something's draining it, on the ignition side, can't find out what.
It's also a good anti-theft device, without the big plastic key under the seat it ain't going to start no matter what wires you jump.

Drained oil ready for an oil and filter change, and renewed all of the vac lines with nice braided stuff.

Tomorrow, valve clearance check, finish the oil change, recheck (again) the fuel tank petcock and a few tidying up jobs, then all ready for Wales, except the fitting of the HRC coolant catch tank (on its way this week) and refit the fairing.

And check that the recovery service is still in date.....

See you in Rhayader, boys
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

:D Finally got my Chinese indicators, I think they look okay
Image

Had to drill a hole in the fairing but hey, they wont get changed

Also, did an epoxy job on one of the holes in the needle slides on the carbs.(front)
Massive short cut taken, just removed the air box lid and stack,
wedged the slide open and filled the hole (top tip ? )
Trust me I reckon that is one hell of a shortcut saving at least an hour !!

Of course, a short test run needed to be undertaken
(and what fun I had with a VW golf gti) :D

If I'm honest the carb slide hole mod improves things slightly around the 3k mark

So I think I'm all set for OP wales next weekend

Well! well! That's the first time I've seen anyone use a bottle of HIBISCRUB as a coolant? Image Image

The indicators with the clear lens looks pretty good though. What you going to use on the back for indicators? Can you get clear lenses for the standard VTR indicator body? (Probably you can, but I'm too lazy to look on flea-bay for them)

Fitted these

Bought on ebay for 13.99, came in 7 days from germany.
They fit well, but I feel the clutch lever is a bit too long.

Send the clutch lever to MacV2 - He'll take a couple of inches off it for you.....albeit in an unconventional way, but he'll shorten it none-the-less...no tools used...just a driveway...

 Sorry - My bad...

Sadly not rode it but moved my boxes back into my caddy after being on holiday and then run it up and checked all liquids and levels etc. Out tomorrow on it after work as my daughter had seen a new car for herself!!!!. Weathers good all week apparently. Did the tyre pressures then covered her up.

Saw loads of bikes down in Cornwall ( Sorry Chris didn't get to St Ives this time) and missed not having a hoon about. Stopped at Bude on the route down and thought about last years ride out. I so hope to make 2016,s.

Saw a nob on a Ducati 1198 hit a car door mirror whilst filtering and give the car driver crap. The driver was gonna lynch him until a council worker said he had it on camera from his van.

My Engineers all have new VW Transporter vans coming this week, fitted with Forward facing cameras. That may be interesting to see being as 3 of them have had accidents in the last 6 months. They all blamed the other drivers!!!.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
