SWINGING ARM CHANGE
SWINGING ARM CHANGE
Hi I want to fit a new swinging arm and shock to my VTR1000.
What`s the best way to support the back end so I can remove the old swinging arm ? The bike is siting on an Hydraulic platform so the front end is clamped . But I can`t see a way of supporting the rear .

Re: SWINGING ARM CHANGE
I use a car jack with a plank of wood at the rear of the sump then tie the rear of the bike to something on each side and it holds it fine.
the older i get,the faster i was

I left the front wheel on and took the rear off...then put a jack and piece of wood under sump. It balanced towards the front and I was able to take swingarm off then.
The second time I tied the subframe to the roof of the garage.

If you don't try you never know if you can do it.

Defo strap the rear of the bike either from above on each side or on each side with straps. You have to use a bit of force to get the swingarm spindle out so don't take the chance of doing it without rear anchorage. I put the front on paddock stand. wood sheet on trolley jack under sump and ratchet strapped the left and right side of the subframe. worked a treat
If it aint broke, get your bloody hands off it!

Brill thanks for advice , I'm be removing this afternoon . Cheers
Re: SWINGING ARM CHANGE
I used my rear paddock stand o lift the bike, made some wooden blocks to use as packers under the sump, then take the paddock stand away. I have crash bungs, so made two pieces of wood with a V cut in the top to wedge under the crash bungs to make is stable.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Jesus, man, how fast were you going when you ran into the kid on the swing?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

ABBA stand fitted to the engine mounts above the swingarm pivot bolt. Details are in the read me for new members.
Did mine like that a couple of weeks ago. Wooden supports under the sump enabled me to take the forks off too. Stable enough.

Aluminium stepladder used as an A frame and the bike held by rope.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
