Help with Electrics
Help with Electrics
Hi, Hopefully someone can help.
My VTR seems to have died. Tried starting it a couple of days ago, but it wouldn't fire.
Instead of draining the battery, I gave it a 5 minute rest and tried again.
Put key in, turned to ignition, and nothing, not a light, no power what so ever.
Took battery off, recharged it, tried again, still nothing, totally dead.
Anyone any ideas?
Bob

Re: Help with Electrics
If the reg/rec fails it will kill the battery stone dead.

Hi,
I'll check the main, thanks for the heads up.
Otherwise possible reg/rec replacements by the sounds of it.
Cheers,

Re: Help with Electrics
Anyway welcome to the forum. It is also advisable to swap auto cct's for manual ones if it's not been done as they fail and bend your valves.

Cheers for everything.
Had the CCTs done when I picked up the bike, just in case.
Checked good old bay, they range from 60 quid to 15/20, bit of a range.
Trouble is, wont know if the batteries fried so may have to look at that too.
Ouch

Re: Help with Electrics
Have you checked the battery with a volt meter to see if it is holding a charge?
Next check your fuses, take them out and physically check them.
If your rr has packed up it would not stop the bike turnng on and firing it will stop it charging or overcharge the battery.
Did you get any strange symptoms before this happened?
Had you been riding it in the rain prior to this happening?

Re: Help with Electrics
Was the main fuse ok then? You may need to run over everything with a multimeter to see what's happening. You're not a million miles away from me, if you need a hand one weekend give me a shout.

Re: Help with Electrics
In that case also check the spark plug hole on the front cylinder, they have a tendency to collect water and short the bike. Take off the plug cap to see.
