Ive a teal storm, Is Whitby just above Wellington, NZ, if not then it wasnt me, sorry
Actually I havent been there for 10 yrs or so. James Cook born there i believe ( your Whitby not ours) somewhat of a NAME here, what with discovering the place and all, ( history lesson, Maori actually discovered NZ, when Cook found it, it wasnt lost)

That's right (about the James Cook thing - though he set sail from Whitby on the Endeavor and was actually from Marton which is near Middlesbrough where I used to live.)
Theres lots of James Cook related stuff (hospitals, shopping centres etc) up that way, as I imagine there is round the Cook Straight and stuff.

Oh yes and i used to live in a village called Great Ayton, which is where the young James Cook went to school !

Apart from English influences on towns and city names and some land marksKitch wrote:

its mostly maori influenced. In the south names were scotish and european with a mix of maori as well, ie Dunedin, Invercargill, Cromwell etc
The part of Invercargill I live in is Otatara and no, I dont know wot it means.
