blue smoke from both the mufflers

Post by tastethefloor »

Hi guys,
I think I'm in trouble, my storm has start to smoke blue from both the mufflers at high rpm during acceleration (6000+) 8O 8O 8O
For the skilled people on the forum is the firestorm more prone to wear the piston rings or the valve stem seals? the bike as 80000 km but still run like a train, I don't want to dismiss it
thanks a lot

Rings&bores , do a compression test .
Oh and keep an eye on the oil level (worth carrying 500mls under the seat (in a bottle) :-))

how is possible to have both cyl rings and bores worn? the bike run well
In my opinion I have got more likely a valve problem, the smoke appear for a while on acc and then disappear
now the problem is which head need to be serviced... :?:

as loydie said do a compression test and see which pot is low, could well be both pots are the same and they both need a refresh.

Your question was about which head need to be serviced.if you found oil on both, both heads need to be serviced

do a compression check on the front, then pour some oil into the cylinder and if your figures go up id be thinking its rings.

..mm..
i'm little more oriented to the heads zone ( valve seals). it 's quite difficult to find different level of wear between two cylinders...

Yes - IIRC you'll first need to move some gubbins out of the way to wield your way in and out...
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Indeed.
Seat, tank, airbox, carbs, undertray, exhaust system, drain coolant, rads off, unbolt oil cooler fixing and lay it down out of the way. You don't need to disconnect the coolers lower connections or drain the oil.
Then you can set the engine to tdc compression on the front, remove cct and cams and unbolt the head.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
