Hello from a Newbie

Post by ChunkyMonkey »

Hiya
just a quickie to say hello.
Yes, another newbie here to pick ya brains
I've just bought a Storm which has had a bit of a heavy bike/island interface and i intend to get her back upto scratch.
I've got a TL thou and an EXUP as well in the stable so the Storm will be in good company 8)
I've posted a couple of ads in the classifieds so if you have any bits going spare, i'd be grateful if you could give me a shout :)
Cheers for now
Andy

Oops...I didn't read your post properly. I didn't expect to be asked about the TL...lol

My TL is a minter and I love it to bits. I've had the forks revalved and an Ohlins rear shock.
Carbon Scorpion cans make it sound so sweet.
I've bought the VTR as I can't bring myself to hack my TL about. I want to build a streetfighter.
I've ridden my mates VTR and that seemed a lot more useable around town than the TL.

Yeah the vtr will make an excellent streetfighter just look on here at some.

I ask about the TL because i'm after a second bike, i was after a supermoto/enduro but alot of people i know where i live just get hassled from coppers/council when going off road and all have been given an ASBO 8O 8O when first got caught, apparently if they catch you again your bike is taken off you 8O

I mean these people are in there 30's to 40's not some little thieving scrote bag with no insurance etc

So it looks like another sports bike for me getting back to the TL whats good about them and whats bad, things to look for when buying one.

cheers Alan

I suppose its all a matter of taste whether you like the TLR.
Its not brilliant out of the crate and needs quite a bit of weight shaving off it. The steering is spot on once you have the suspension dialed in.
I had a ZX10R before this and got bored with the clinical power delivery of the IL4, but the TL has so much mid range stonk it guarantees to put a smile on your face :)
I've had mine remapped and that makes a hell of a difference in the power delivery.
There are tons of mods you can do to liberate more gee gees, very much like the VTR no doubt.
The TL is sposed to have the same steering geometry as a MotoGP bike of the same year but I don't know how true that is.
I think its such a shame that Suzuki didn't try a bit harder with the TL in race form cos i'm sure they could have got it running rings around the italian stuff.
There were all kinds of horror stories about he handling of TL's but I think 99% of road riders would be unable to push the bike that far (me for one  )
There are some lovely examples of sorted TLR's going for silly money and I think they will become a bit of a classic in the future as they are a bit notorious.
Its a good time to snap one up :P
