backfire into airbox

Post by firestorm 69 »

recently noticed front cam chain getting more rattly(idling & off load in particular), I checked tensioner few months back & seemed fine (I now have a replacement on order from David Silver, which I presume is a pattern part, but if honda one is so shite shouldn't be too much of a worry)

I have occasionally had a loud backfire in the airbox, when slowing down on closed throttle, probably once or twice per ride, but happening regularly.

I'm thinking this is probably down to the cam chain going slack off load due to weak tensioner spring ? Surely if timing had slipped this would be obvious, there are no performance or running problems.

Anyone got any thoughts on this, I'm trying to reassure myself its not major !

Mine is dynojetted and has K&N filter and have always experienced the popping under the tank in the airbox.
Nothing to worry about in my opinion as others do it as well.

Mine does it too :!: As already said nothing to worry about :D
Depending on mileage etc and when last done, balancing the carbs may help some what.

The CCT from D/S are genuine Honda, not a pattern part.

If your front CCT is definitely on the way out I wouldn't ride your bike as it is unless absolutely necessary :!: You could end up with an expensive repair :!:

popping into box

Cheers fellas

thanks for the reassurance

I'm expecting new tensioner any day so not riding until job done.

Sirch, when i had tensioner out earlier in year i was expecting to find a compression spring like the old Austins/MG's used to have, this was a bombproof design, why the hell did Honda have to come up with such a crap "improvement"

FS 69.
You can make the std ones 'bomb proof' if you follow Sirch's clever idea to prevent retraction too far in case of spring breakage.
Done it to mine for added 'ring of confidence' (for those old enough to remember this advert!!!)
