Tosh...just a different batch so different paint marking...Or so many have had to be made to replace the ones that fail they ran out of pink paint...

Fit manuals & be done with it...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

While there was a change in the part no. for auto CCTs they are all capable of failing (or the spring inside is) leading to catastrophic engine failure. Pink, white, orange and magnolia dots are meaningless unless you can find out what they mean from Honda themselves - but then Honda ignore that's a an inherent problem with their CCTs....

Here's a variety of manual tensioners to choose from :

Krieger, APE, Bazza and Ade Whitmarsh's CCT's > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=22720

Rob de hoo in the Netherlands would be best to get a pair of Kriegers from > http://exhausist.com/cct-prices-shipping

and instructions for fitting are in the Workshop Knowledgebase

there is 1 design for the VTR and there is another that will fit a CBF600F4 that is shorter in the body that the VTR version.

for your reference VTR part number 14520-MBB-013, CBR600F4 14520-MBW-J24

You might want to read this > Do Blackbirds ever have cam chain problems? > http://ixxra.org/camchaintensioner.htm
Do Blackbirds ever have cam chain problems?

Quote ".My bike is making a knocking sound when warming up and I was told to have the cam-chain checked..Is this a possible cause?"

YES - Blackbirds can suffer with cam chain tensioner (CCT) problems. However not all Blackbirds suffer as much as others. Another valid point is that the problem is actually only the CCT, not the cam-chain itself! CCT failure sounds like a rattle at about 3000rpm, and does sound worse at a cold tick-over. It somehow never seems as bad when the engine is warm!
Besides when a CCT fails on an inline 4 there is something to take up the slack and it'll just rattle - on the VTR's V-twin engine there isn't this safety margin hence the cam chain skips the cam sprockets = timing moves and valves generally meet piston.

So in summary much the same design that fails on other Honda's but rattles when it fails - Honda saw fit to use to use the same type of tensioner on the VTR and has caused a lot to be written off / made a handsome profit from selling replacement parts for top end engine rebuilds.

Spot the pattern...

CCT Death Rattle..........maybe!! > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9148
The replacement ones had a pink dot of paint, which I was told, were the latest ones.....I dunno!
CCT cost of repair?? > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4619
I can't believe Honda would just let this problem ride, I mean, reading all the threads on here it must be a pretty serious and common breakdown.
dreaded cct after 48hr ownership :-( > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 23&t=33856
The dreaded cct let go bending all 4 valves and bending 2 valve guides aswel as killing the piston .These were changed for oem honda auto tensioners only 4 months ago prior to ownership 800 miles ago .
Engine rebuild or swap > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=32316
Took it to the mechanics, verdict was CCT failure, snapped/bent valves, hole in the front piston… ):

Just check the part numbers.
It's the same with all colours of dots.

They just upgraded the paint dot....

Honda aren't going to upgrade a part for an old bike after all these years, are they.....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Nah they don't use people any more. It's cheaper to use machines. The people have been made redundant and now claiming benefits off the few still in employment.

There is one benefit to the dots. It's means more bikes being broken for parts
