Power Increase
I’m looking at getting more power from my motor. I feel I have run as fast as possible with the work done so far (air box, carbs, pipe) Looking for 20-30 hp increase. From what I can find on the net tuning parts for the storm are few and far between, and what is available cost the earth. Add to that machining work and tuning the motor is not looking cost effective. Am I correct??
My other option is Nitrous oxide. My question here is how strong is the stock motor? From what I have seen it looks like a fairly strong engine.

Have you tried a lightened flywheel? overall weight saving titanium / carbon regime.

+ 1 on the flywheel plus add a quick turn throttle tube !
Changes the character and makes it feel more powerful.
A cost effective mod that gives big returns.

Re: Power Increase
I hope this isn't too much of an unhelpful comment, but why not 'just' get an SP1 or SP2 if you're looking for a 20-30 hp increase over the Firestorm?

Re: Power Increase
Sell the vtr and get a more powerful bike .
Saves a lot of time trying to find all the parts needed to make a stage 1or2 .

Re: Power Increase
Nitrous is only a worthwhile option is your doing quarters, on the road you'd run out in a few seconds.
20-30hp isn't easy or cheap, surely another bike with 30hp more would be the answer, unless your really in love with the storm
It has been done though, a few on here have done it and will fill you in i'm sure.

Re: Power Increase
My bike is a drag bike, it is only for ¼ mile use. I already use a quick action throttle, not been able to get hold of a lightened flywheel.
I like the bike, and the fact when I turn up at an event I won’t see half a paddock full of firestorms. I have run 10.9 second ¼ miles on it so far, but that’s about as quick as it will go in this state of tune.
SP 1 or 2s are going for silly money, then I would have to have all the other kit made to race the bike. Then the bike would be worth F all after it’s been modded and raced.
Looks like the motor won’t take a large power increase looking at the links. I didn’t want to sell the bike, but looks like that may be the most sensible option.

Re: Power Increase
You may know of this, but this is a nice little piece about approaches to increasing power:

Re: Power Increase
There was on ebay in Kent for £4500 (TonyM had a link here to it)SP 1 or 2s are going for silly money,
or this SP1 for £5000 offers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-VTR-10 ... 2456454433
Wouldn't see many of them at drag trips and Honda HRC have done all the development to make it 30bhp more powerful than a Storm...

Re: Power Increase
Gas flow heads, reprofiled cams, slottted cam wheels, head skim, usual tuning stuff which will get reasonable gains, maybe 120 at the wheel.
FCR Carbs will gain you more too,
Small fuel cell and fibreglass or carbon dummy tank, lightweight rear wheel, as much weight saving as you can think of.
You will be looking at low 10's or maybe even a high 9 second.
I know someone running an old GSX1100 bored to 1170, long and low but massively heavier than your storm could be. the 1170 motors put out about 120hp. He ran 10.5 at the weekend so you can get more out of what you've got

Re: Power Increase
I must admit it could be lighter. Think I may see if I can get a better exhaust system, get a lighter flywheel and look for some FCR’s . Maybe a bit of head work. If I lay off the pies over the winter that may help too .
I love the bike, don’t want to sell it.

Re: Power Increase
High comp pistons give a noticeable boost, gas flow heads and you're halfway there.
Add cams and you will get around 20 over stock, 25 with pipes and airbox cleaning.
But here's a left field suggestion, as you don't need full tank volume, how about splitting the airbox into two, making each section bigger, running ram air tubes to get the coldest, cleanest air in and running the cam timing 180 out?
A big bang configuration would do very nicely on the drag strip.
I have never been able to try this for street use as you will lose too much tank volume, but as you need to carry very little fuel for each run you could gut half the tank out and have no downside.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
