best tires for grip and wear

any one know which tyres gives good grip and wear well...

i have avon storms on right now ,good wet and dry grip on the road and looking at 5000 miles from a back , bit more from the front , Â£165 a pair drive in drive out , strathearn tyres crief, scotland

the best tyres i had were maxxis supermaxx

great grip and lifespan

the ultimate grippy tyres i have now are dunlop 208gpa which are like glue but only done me 1000 miles

i got michelins on now but really like dunlops but not tried them on my storm..with winter coming wear can supersede grip

I have experimented a bit with tyres over the last couple years....dunlop 208's , michelin macadams , Avon Roadriders, Maxxis supermax and metzeler sportecs.( havent tried pirelli's )

Out of all the tyres i have tried IMO there is only one brand to have that i havent mentioned above : BRIDGESTONES ..... used to have Battlax 020's and nothing i have tried since has "cut the mustard"compared to them.

Grip and stability in wet and dry was fantastic, confidence inspiring even. They last too and i know now what my next pair will be.................

OK out of all the tyres I've had direct experience of:

Bridgestone BT010 - Excellent grip, short life, can be slippy in winter.
Bridgestone BT020 - Very good grip, decent life, older so squares off worse than newer dual compound tyres.
Bridgestone BT014 - Fantastic grip, shocking lifespan (I mullered one in about 1000 miles)
Avon Storm - Good grip, Excellent lifespan (mine have done 5k miles already and have a good bit left)

Out of all of them, I'd rate the Avon Storms the best (and they say "storm" on the tread, which has to be worth something) I reckon the Bridgestone BT021 and Michellin Pilot Road 2 will give similar performance.

dunlop 207rrs used to do that..eary at firsy but great when you get used to it..this was on zx6r though not storm

Bridgestone 014's for grip!!!!!! they may get shreaded quicker than the others but personally i would rather pay more for the sticky grip they give, as said above, they will improve your confidence!

Avon AV45/46, now superseded by the Storm. Great for lasting (<7000 miles from rear) and grip enough to get the footpegs down. Cheapish too!

It has to be the bridgestones for me, but unlike some i prefere a little more grip on the front and a harder wearing rear so mix and match with 014's and 020,s (as were) resectivley.

Used to have Bridgestone 010's which I really liked athough they would wear quite quickly. Just had a set of Michelin Pilot Road 2's fitted, wear seems much better doesn't look used with approx 900 miles on them, also haven't noticed a difference in grip from the 010's. So far I'm happy with the switch

All the comments about Brigestones (the soft ones) great for grip, pants for wear...........

Why are we not all using the dual compound ones (pilot power etc) type ones, which have the soft compound on the sides (when you corner) and the harder grade in the center for straight line wear reduction.

Unless I'm missing the point, this technical answer seems to obvious, I'm not understanding why everyone's not using this type of tyre now?

Is it just brand loyalty to other less high tech "normal" tyres or is there some other reason?

I think its more a matter of what feels right for each of us ..... I liked the 020's hence i will try 021's next(these are dual compound)

But, dual or not....if u'r happy with what ya using and feel comfortable then why not continue? VeetyR

I've got Pilot Sport 2 on my Storm and love them. Fantastic wear, brilliant in the wet and super grippy in the dry.

The only problem with them is that stupid advert that Nicky Hayden does for them

Another vote for the Avons. Im that happy with my last 2, im having a new rear on today!

After having a chat with a few of the lads Ive decided to have another Azaro AV46 fitted. My local tyre place has a couple of these still kicking about (superseded by the Avon Storm now) so I got it at a good price...

Â£90 fitted! They wear well enough, offer decent grip, but I did find my last one squared quite badly (thats mile after mile of mway for you though

)

I was going to get a pair of Pilot Sport 2's fitted but my fronts still got good life left in it and it would have cost me another Â£100.

Happy as a pig in sh#t!
